Bisco Porcelain Etchant (5g) is a buffered hydrofluoric acid (HF) gel designed to prepare porcelain and glass-ceramic surfaces for reliable bonding with resin cement. Its controlled etching action creates microscopic surface irregularities on feldspathic porcelain and glass ceramics, increasing the available surface area for mechanical retention and helping improve adhesion.
The gel consistency provides precise application and controlled handling, making it suitable for porcelain restoration procedures as well as the repair of fractured porcelain restorations. Its etching effect provides a controlled alternative to mechanical surface treatments such as sandblasting, helping prepare the ceramic surface before adhesive cementation.
BISCO Porcelain Etchant is also easy to rinse after application and can be used as part of a bonding protocol with silane coupling agents. Because the product contains hydrofluoric acid, appropriate protective measures, including gloves and protective eyewear, should be used and the material should always be handled according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
